Key PA "Broken"
In August I went to Nashville to work on the feature film Broken. As Key PA I was able to
pass on the lessons I have learned and trained up a great squad of production
assistants. Every day on this show
was a great adventure. We only
shot indoors the first two days and the rest...
PA/Grip for HGTV Web Videos
Red Arrow Industries brought me in again for an HGTV
shoot.In search of Entertaining
Kitchens and Man Bathrooms we visited some more really nice houses around
Knoxville.We used a ladder dolly
and 5D to capture TVs behind mirrors, kitchens you could host a whole party in
and an in home urinal. We used
Smoky Mountain Grip and Lighting's newest truck packed with all kinds of cool
stuff like Lite Panels on booms, a ladder dolly, Rosco Scrims and ND frames.I was familiar with most of the
work involved and our gaffer Steve Spallone was more than happy to explain
anything new.It is great to find
good mentors who understand I want to know the best way to do everything. In just three days with Red Arrow
Industries I have doubled my value as a grip.HGTV will use the final videos for their website.
Production
Assistant on Laughing at The Moon

While locking up a set for the movie Laughing at The Moon I stopped a
gentleman who turned out to be a local DP.That week he got me hired by Red Arrow
Industries to work on some promos for HGTV's House Hunters. The shoot was done with a Canon 5D at
three locations in Knoxville, including Villa Collina.I spent the day working with shiny

this shoot was a great opportunity.I look forward to working with Red Arrow Industries in the future.
Inspired by my job at Boat N RV I thought a series of used Mark
commercials would be a good way to test out my new green screen and
audio gear. Used in this sense...
Harlem Globetrotters Fan Photographer
When
the Harlem Globetrotters played at the Thompson Bowling arena in
Knoxville, Printroom.com hired me to do fan photography. The assignment
was to photograph as many fans as possible and distribute cards to help
them find their photos online. I practiced my stadium walking skills
mastered as a camera operator for Smokies Baseball. I was also
challenged to ask strangers if I could take their picture. By the end of
the night I had grown fearless. I was asking everybody. My pay was
based on how many photos I generated so it was a lot like selling
products at Blockbuster, ask everybody enough of them will say yes, and
if you try a little harder you can even convince the reluctant ones. I
also got to shoot a three on three game during the halftime show. I
believe the players were local radio personalities. I have done a lot
of sports video but not still photography. It was fun I hope I get the
opportunity again soon.
HappyDagger.net Video
I shot a green screen video for Brad Carpenter's blog HappyDagger.net.
He wrote a hilarious script and put on a great performance. I stretched
out the backdrop in the music room at his parents house. I brought in
my XHA1 all my audio gear and all my lights. It was a great day. Between
shots we played with the dogs, ate pepper turkey sandwiches and
generally had a great time. Brad has excellent taste in movies, he is
mostly a writer but he has also made a few short films. He will be
editing the footage so I am eager to see how it turns out. Before I left
we were able to make sure the green screen worked and it keyed right
out.
Production Assistant for Biggest Loser

in Jefferson City.I worked with a

home then documented the Zumba dance class she teaches. The shoot went great the crew had all
the right knowledge and gear to quickly get a good looking shot.I assisted with set up and break down
of equipment, transportation, handling releases, and of course food and drinks
for the crew.

factory in Maryland.They make
Sharpie, and Expo markers there.I
grabbed footage of the workers, machines, products, and offices to be edited together with interviews shot at a different facility with an HVX.
Normally we would not have made a horror film but when we saw the
Knoxville Horror Festival had only a $7 entry fee we couldn't resist.
Jason Lee, Michael Abbott and myself collaborated to come up with a
story that would be a different take on the horror genre. What if the
hero doesn't care about the monster?

Comcast, WBIR, and the internet.
Jason Lee, Tom Currie and I produced this short for the Knoxville Films
24 Hour Film Festival. Our requirements were a dictionary, a landlord
and the line of dialogue "try to be incognito when you meet them." We
had a great time making the movie. Jupiter Entertainment won best film
at the festival but since they sponsored the first place prize they
chose to let us have the 2-day camera lighting and audio package rental.

to run camera a few times a week.

Knoxville.I mostly worked with
the art department on building sets as well as preparing props and

huge crew and all the necessary gear. The short film stars Peyton Manning and will be played during the

been selected I can share the rest of the set.

to work on a music video for the band Seeing Skies. This was my first
opportunity to work with a RED ONE camera. Matthew and Kelly Rogers run
Macville Productions. In addition to the camera they have a whole truck
full of grip equipment.This
project also gave me the chance to learn about working with a dolly and
track.The footage looked great, I
can’t wait to see the finished video.
Camera Operator For Jaystorm Project Music Video Release Party
Michael Samstag asked me to
shoot video for the Jaystorm Project music
video release party. The video premiere was held at Saphire in downtown
Knoxville. I shot video both to document
the event and for live broadcast to a projector. The video was produced by Packdog Productions.
11 O'clock Rock at Knoxivi Featuring Jaystorm Project
I was hired by director David Brodsky to work on a music
video for Whitechapel. I spent the day as David's assistant giving
me a great opportunity to learn about using a 35mm lens adapter with the
HVX200 as well as the music video business in general.
Ijams Nature Center has made arrangements to use my photos of the park in their promotional materials. Two of my photos will be used in their upcoming 100th anniversary celebration.
This winter I am also working on a show called The Auctioneers. This show tells the stories of buyers, sellers and auctioneers in the Canton Ohio area. Transcribing this show has given me the opportunity to learn more about conducting and recording a good interview. I have not only been studying the audio and camera work but also the types of questions that need to be asked and how to get editable responses from the subject. This experience will help me with my own projects as well as work with future clients.
In November 2009 Northsouth Productions contacted me about transcribing some more shows. First they gave me footage from Impassable, a reality show about avalanche cleanup in Utah. The show focuses on the crew and plow drivers. This show is particularly interesting to me, it was shot in Cottonwood Canyon, a place I was lucky enough to visit a couple of summers ago. Impassable will air on TLC.

Photography of a Civil War Re-enactment at Fort Dickerson for TNJN
This month marks the 144th anniversary of the battle of Fort Dickerson in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fort Dickerson's annual Living History Weekend was held Nov. 9-Nov. 11. It allowed Knoxvillians to remember their heritage through a weekend of Civil War reenactments. Fort Dickerson was designed by Capt. Orlando M. Poe, chief engineer of
the Army of the Ohio, and built by the Federal Army during the winter
of 1863 to protect Knoxville
One of my earliest photography jobs. I was commissioned to capture images of some Maryville landmarks, the Vol Navy, and some group photos for Blount Magazine.
